The RV-Care-A-Vanners Lend a Hand

Habitat for Humanity is so privileged to have a unique and caring group like the RV Care-A-Vanners. Not familiar with them, well, let me tell you then. The RV Care-A-Vanner program is open to anyone with a recreational vehicle who wants to travel to various Habitat affiliate locations and assist with a build. Oh yes, and have fun doing it. The program welcomes people from all ages and all walks of life. The only criteria is you must be interested in picking up a hammer and helping to change someone's life.

The program brings positive attention to the impact Habitat has in communities as well as the lives of the homeowners and the volunteers. They bring enthusiasm as well as skilled labor on and off the build site. They can also offer stability when an affiliate is lacking in volunteers.

Here in North Platte we have the good fortune to have RV Care-A-Vanners come nearly every summer for two weeks to work on our build sites. This year we were lucky enough to have Rick and Paula come for almost two weeks and then Dave and Mary swung by last Saturday to assist with the wall raising for the 51st house.

Starting with just a handful of builds in 1988 has grown to encompass nearly 2,000 active volunteers traveling to over 200 active builds each year in nearly 140 locations across the U.S. and Canada. The program is growing every year. In 2016 RV Care-A-Vanners participated in 234 builds, helping 665 families contributing 110,741 hours for an estimated value of $2.6 million!

If you are interested in becoming part of the program and Travel with Purpose, simply contact the RV Care-A-Vanners desk at (229) 410-7490 or email them at rvinfodesk@habitat.org. Maybe we'll see you at our next build!

We were proud to be able to show off our homes, our wonderful volunteers, our active homeowners and our fantastic community to our RV Care-A-Vanners again this year. And we are already looking forward to next year.

Thanks RV Care-A-Vanners!
